Around The Farm ~ Why I Take Pictures | Personal

(Pictured above: Fresh Apple cider… and obligatory fall leaf picture)

A while back a friend told me “Your pictures always turn out so beautifully! I would take pictures all the time if my pictures turned out so well.” Something about that comment struck a chord with me. My pictures never EVAH “turn out well” at least not on the first shot. Slowly I realized that I hardly ever took ordinary photos of family life anymore and most of my camera time was devoted to making my pictures look the best.

Curious now, I went back in the family picture archives to look at how I’ve taken pictures over the years. I’ve been the main “picture taker” in the family since we got our first digital camera in 2001 so I had a lot to look back on. All of the pictures until roughly 2009 were allllll candid happy family shots. Some were taken on holidays and birthdays but for the most part they were taken on normal days of no particular importance. 2009 was when I started really trying to make photography more professional and with that the normal family pictures slowly disappeared unless it was a major holiday or birthday. I missed all of the ordinary days. Since then, I’ve made a conscious effort to bring my camera out on regular old normal days.

Whether you’re a photographer or not, don’t let “good” or “bad” pictures prevent you from capturing the normal days in your life. You’ll never regret when, years from now, you’ll look back on how young everyone was, all those outdated styles, old friends, and even the decorations that used to be on the walls!Β  You’ll be happy and thankful for everyone of those pictures. πŸ™‚

Whew, OK, with that said here are some of said normal day pictures!

While working on finishing up some photoshoots I’ve done over the past few weeks, I decided to post some farm pictures I’ve taken over the past few months. We’ve been quite busy!

Waking up early to do chores and finding a surprise baby donkey in the field! I took my camera out after that to document the morning chores.

To sum it all up, I’m leaving yinz with this picture of Bruce the overgrown calf and this hymn which is always my favorite this time of year.

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

It was a beautiful cold snowy day. I decided that I must take advantage of the gorgeous snow and take some farm pictures. It just so happened that our friends were in the midst of lambing season so we dropped by there as well. Emmaline was a trooper going out in the foot of snow dragging around an uncooperative pregnant donkey. πŸ™‚ Thankfully, Isabelle came with us to help out with the cranky animals. Take a look at what we captured below. Enjoy πŸ™‚

Summer 2014 In Pictures

Summer 2014 In Pictures

Hi my faithful readers! It’s been a long long time since I’ve done one of these posts. I think the last time I posted some regular pictures from around home was early 2013.Β  Time to fix that I think. Actually, I’m thinking of making a semi regular thing of home pictures. Not weekly but a little more spaced out. Any ideas? Leave your ideas in the comments below πŸ™‚ Also I went little crazy on the pictures. There’s a ton! I put some really really cute onesΒ  at the end. πŸ˜‰ Enjoy!

So Where Have I Been?

kitten guitar pink scarf bokeh

*waves* Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while. The past few months have been PACKED. This poor blog has suffered and had dropped to the bottom of the priority list. Me and my camera haven’t been idle though. I’ve tons of pictures to show you all. I even shot a wedding!

Besides shooting, the majority of my time has been filled with college studies. Le sigh. :-/ Mix that with life and work and you’ve got yourself a filled schedule. I’ve been working with pacing myself and scheduling so that hopefully I can resume a normal blogging schedule. I’m not quite there yet but you should start seeing a lot more activity on here. In the meantime, enjoy this picture of our kitten, Sleepy, on my guitar. πŸ˜€ (yes, her name really is Sleepy)

Calves 2013 | Beaver County Photographer

SoooooΒ  about that post that I promised for last week. I decided to postpone it in light of the sudden outburst of calves that we’ve had in the past 24 hours.

This calf we named Rajosh in honor of two very good friends of ours who will be married in April. πŸ™‚

These next two’s names are pending. I’ll be posting the names on Facebook when we have them. (facebook link on right sidebar)
