There and Back Again-A Dominican Mission Trip:Days One And Two

Whew. After a week of sorting through pictures, I finally have a post! Due to the fact that I have soooooooo many pics, I’m going to split up the posts over a couple of days.

Day 1, Saturday Jan. 23

Not too much to say about this day. A lot of travel. Not much else.

4:00 Am at the airport.

Sunrise from the plane.

After landing in Santo Domingo, we got on large bus that would take us to the MGM camp. We were very hot. When we landed it was 84 degrees and humid.

We were very tired by the time we got to the camp. I don’t really remember much except eating dinner, practicing for worship(our church group lead worship every morning), and falling instantly asleep on a foam mattress around 8:00 PM.

Day 2, Sunday Jan. 24

The next morning we were up by 6:30 Am and trying not to fall asleep during our private devotions.  Devotions with Jim McDonald started around 7:30 ish. Normally devotions started at 6:45, but since the other half of the DR team didn’t arrive till 8:00 AM, everything was postponed a hour.

This is the “Upper Room” where we would meet every morning to start worship and devotions.

Later after we all had eaten, we went to a local church.

(Lizzy C.) The one and only pic from this church service that wasn’t blurry.

During the afternoon, we met the kids from the nearby village. They bring bracelets that they sell.

The girls braid hair for around 10$ and the boys will clean your shoes for 2$. Some times you could pay them with candy. 🙂

(Lizzy C. getting her hair braided)

Also, we got a crash course on how to work in the optical department.

(a bunch of the optical team on the back porch)

(explaining the different prescription glasses)

In the evening we went to another local church. There was this adorable little girl sitting in front of us.

(Caroline L.)

And we went back to camp and fell into bed exhausted.

To Be Continued……..

  1. Great pictures (as always)! The new camera is amazing. The pictures turn out so good! Of course, the camera’s nothing-it’s the photographer behind it that makes the picture! 🙂 Looking forward to the rest of the updates!
